About JT

JT Carr, a Bellevue, Washington-based educator and author, specializes in integrating methods and tools to improve quality and performance. With over 20 years in management, JT is President of Structured Methods Applications Co. and focuses on refining leadership skills for senior managers using structured planning performance management, technical communications, and practical productivity and creative techniques.

After receiving her MBA in Marketing, JT went to work for The Boeing Company in Washington, DC as a marketing rep to health care governmental agencies. After about two years, she transferred to the Program Planning and Control Department in Seattle, Washington, where she studied Boeing standards and management practices.

As a Program Planner, JT guided senior managers in managing and overseeing their programs and projects. Carr taught structured planning methods to senior managers in the Program Planning and Control Organization at Boeing Computer Services Group. With three of her colleagues, she taught Program Planning and Control methods to her 150+ departmental planner colleagues. As a result, she became a Trainer, transferred to the Education and Training Department, and taught structured planning, planning and controls (project management), systems management, and technical communications at Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group.

As Supervisor for the Boeing Learning Centers, JT supervised and managed five separate learning centers that service all the Boeing companies. She was responsible for various delivery systems, numerous subjects, and thousands of learning materials.

Using what is now known as Leadership Performance Criteria (which is based on engineering and aerospace standards), JT simplified methods, developed and improved techniques, integrated knowledge shared by others, and achieved numerous successes. In 1990, JT started her own company, Structured Methods Applications Company. She is a consultant and trainer and specializes in planning, productivity, and refining leadership performance.

With a background in aerospace and pharmacy, JT served as Aerospace/Defense Track Chair, "Achieving World Class in Aerospace-Defense" for the 1992 3-day PROJEXPO in San Jose, California. In 1991, she was Aerospace/Defense Track Manager for technical papers for Project Management Institute's "Managing for Quality" Symposium in Dallas.

She has contributed over 25 articles to national professional journals, including PROGRAM MANAGER - Journal of the Defense Systems Management College, NATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY REVIEW, JOURNAL OF QUALITY AND PARTICIPATION, QUALITY DIGEST, PERFORMANCE AND INSTRUCTION- National Society for Performance and Instruction, HEALTHCARE EXECUTIVE, and PHYSICIAN EXECUTIVE- Journal of Management, American College of Physician Executives.

In the United Kingdom, JT has published "Practice what you Preach" in the BEST PRACTICE Measuring Performance Issue, IFS International Limited, January 1995.

In the pharmaceutical industry, JT is a multi-state registered pharmacist, has over 12 years multifaceted experience in independent and chain store practice, extended & nursing home care, and has been on the national staff of US Pharmacopoeia and the American Pharmaceutical Association.

She has a BS from Northeastern University, an MBA from GW University, and is a Washington State Quality (Baldrige) Award Examiner. JT has been named in Sterling's "Who's Who in Leadership."

JT Carr, also known as J. Tina Carriuolo, directs and dances Italian Folk Dances (www.italianfolkdances.com). Its mission is to promote folk dances and music of Southern Italy and increase pride in Italian heritage. In 1988, JT adopted her daughter, Melissa, who, although born in Calcutta, India, considers herself as Italian. Melissa and JT live in Bellevue, Washington.
